In 2021 an estimated 698 million people, or 9% of the global population, are living in extreme poverty – that is, living on less than $1.90 a day. According to Global citizens, Half of these extremely poor people live in five countries with 7% of them in Nigeria.

But poverty isn’t just about economic hardship, it is also about lack of opportunities, especially among women and girls. So we empower the poor people with the skills needed to earn a living, take care of their needs, and support their families. We believe people can create and lead their own change if empowered, and given the necessary resources.

We place a special focus on empowering women and girls. This is because, globally, women and girls are on the lowest ring of poverty with fewer tools to lift themselves out of it. Still, research has shown that when equipped with the proper resources, women and girls have the power to lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty.
